Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
